Press Release

Safety and security of race fans top priority of Dover officials during Sept. 25-27 race weekend

DOVER, Del. – As thousands of race fans make their final preparations to attend this weekend’s NASCAR tripleheader at Dover International Speedway, officials have already put their security procedures in action to ensure the safety and security of all patrons visiting the track.

While the FBI and Department of Homeland Security have recently issued security bulletins regarding possible terrorist threats on sports stadiums, entertainment complexes and hotels throughout the U.S., the Speedway has been operating at a heightened security level ever since hosting the first major sporting event in the U.S. following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

“These briefings reiterate the continuing threat that exists in our country and we have and will continue to ensure our fans safety through comprehensive security and emergency planning efforts,” says Denis McGlynn, president and CEO of Dover Motorsports, Inc. “We are in constant contact with our local, state and federal law enforcement partners year round. Through collaboration with these agencies and our own personnel, fans at the track should have peace of mind knowing they’re coming to a safe and secure environment this weekend.”

Over 400 fire, emergency and law enforcement personnel are on-hand throughout the race weekend to attend to any situation that may arise. Fans in Dover are reminded to always dial 911 if medical attention is needed or if suspicious activity is spotted while at the Speedway.

Great seats still remain for the Sept. 25-27, 2009 NASCAR race weekend at Dover International Speedway. For more information, or to purchase race tickets, call 800-441-RACE or click here.
