Pair of NASCAR Camping World East Series practices kick off race weekend on Thursday afternoon

The monster has officially been awakened. 28 cars from the NASCAR Camping World East Series hit the track this afternoon in preparation for Friday's "Sunoco 150" season finale. Matt DiBenedetto, No. 18 Joe Gibbs Driven Toyota, turned the fastest lap of the day during the second session with a lap of 150.232 mph.

Matt Kobyluck's No. 40 Mohegan Sun Resort & Casino Chevrolet led the first practice with a lap of 147.862 mph. Championship contenders Eddie MacDonald (No. 71 NEMO/Grimm Construction Chevrolet) and Ryan Truex (No. 00 NAPA Toyota) were 6th and 10th on the charts respectively.

In the second session, DiBenedetto’s lap topped Kevin Swindell’s (No. 9 Curb Records Dodge) speed of 148.026 mph. MacDonald (9th fastest in second session) again topped Truex’s time (13th fastest).

The NASCAR Camping World East Series will qualify on Friday afternoon for the Sunoco 150, scheduled to take the green flag at 4:45 p.m. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Nationwide Series will also be on track to practice on Friday, and the Sprint Cup cars will qualify at 3:10 p.m.
